ESC Local 20 is saddened to learn of the passing of brother Jim Hopkins, a retired Gas Associate Distribution Engineer with PG&E in Oakland and respected union leader at Local 20, on October 11th. Jim worked for PG&E for over 50 years and became a familiar sight at ESC annual meetings as a dedicated shop steward, an engaged retiree, and was known as ESC’s unofficial Master at Arms — he was well-known for his booming laugh and for being the first Estimator not to wear a tie. Jim’s legacy at ESC is assured, as he remains the only two-time winner of the Judith Kehrlein Unionist of the Year Award. There is no doubt his leadership greatly benefitted all ESC PG&E members. Brother Hopkins will be deeply missed by his ESC family and all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held via Zoom on October 22nd at 11 am for all who would like to pay their respects.Â
